THE KILLING JAR @ Red Gallery April 28 opening
The Killing Jar
Artworks of Rosario Solis in collaboration with Nestor Ong
When corporations and ideologies started categorizing dreams and ideals in neat little boxes, the soul and essence of free thinking began to wither like insects in a huge killing jar. The suffocation has to end. The lid has to be opened. The killing jar must be shattered.
Featured in the exhibit are six artworks by Rosario Solis that celebrate liberation, images inspired by very old scientific illustrations of insects combined with modern minimalist organic and industrial designs.
Also featured is a surrealist portrayal of a taboo love affair done by Nestor Ong.
Aside from breaking personal killing jars, there will also be a jam session with PG Zoluaga's band "Maharlikang Bahandi", poetry readings, and collaborative painting sessions.

Mud House in Danjugan Island
An emerging tourist destination in the Philippines is Sipalay City in Negros Occidental, which could be reached through a three-hour land trip from Bacolod City, the provincial capital. The city offers smart travelers seeking relief from the hustle and bustle of urban centers many beach resorts. Off Sipalay is Danjugan island, a marine reserve and sanctuary, where you can commune with nature at its purest, prominent features of which are three lagoons, a bat cave, rare species of birds, including eagles that have found a peaceful abode on the island. From the Sipalay town proper, you can hie off to the island in 30 minutes by pump boat, with limbs of nature welcoming you along the way.

Gawad Kalinga Sooc Terracotta Youth Artists Group
The GK Sooc Terracotta Youth Artists Group was initiated following the success of the Banglos sculptors livelihood project in Smart Amazing GK Village in Gen. Nakar, Quezon.
The terracotta project of Smart Communications Inc. aims to contribute to the development and advancement of art in the GK communities adopted by the company.
In GK Sooc, Smart initiated the training of children in terracotta art in the hope of tapping their artistic talent and creating a new source of livelihood.

"Rendezvous" Exhibit Statement

Have you ever thought of a special place which serves us home for: madness and sanity, surrealism and realism, transition and static, daze and haze as well as everything in between all of these? Perhaps you have imagined this ideal place somewhere and you have bounced back to your waking life finding nowhere. Today, you find “that” Rendezvous.
Rendezvous is a fusion of art that is old and told, ancient and contemporary, harmonious and ambiguous. It is not a two-man show of Art just for beauty's sake but a slow train ride that seeps through how beautiful is the mind, how vast is the heart and how restless are the hands. It is a collaboration of greatly different media and perceptions bind by the same passion- to create, to mold that special venue that lets every viewer to not just look at but definitely, look into. A venue that awakens emotional telepathy that transcends.
Rendezvous showcases the intricacies of Escario and the perplexities of Duterte and the eccentricity of both. This is your ticket to a no mainstream art destination. Rendezvous is a taste of utopia. Sights and styles that either hits you home at the gut of your bewilderment.

Shielo May Duterte born in San Fernando,Cebu.Finished Bachelor of Fine Arts major in painting in University of the Philippines and currently teaching fine arts in the University of San Agustin. He had previously made four one-man shows in Cebu and won as a finalist in AAP art competition ( 1998 ).
Maria Cristina S. Escario, born in Quezon City and graduated at University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City 2007, with the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts, Studio Arts. Formerly at the Phil. World trade Center Manila FAME Intl. as an assistant designer and currently teaching in University of San Agustin, Iloilo City. BFA program.
